Insidious: Out of the Further
Sequel to Insidious: The Red Door, the sixth instalment of the Insidious franchise is written and directed by Jacob Chase and stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Lin Shaye is also reprising her role from the previous films as Elise Rainier. Insidious fans know what to expect from the franchise and we are sure it will be filled with more hair-raising jump scares and spooky seances that we know and love.
Verity
Verity is the latest Colleen Hover novel to be adapted to screen with the most recent being Reminders of Him earlier this year. Although Hoover’s core genre is typically contemporary romance, this story is a bit different and is an intense psychological thriller. Anne Hathaway plays renowned author Verity Crawford and Dakota Johnson plays struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh. Their lives intertwine when Lowen relocates to the remote Crawford estate to finish Verity’s highly successful book series. However, Lowen discovers a harrowing manuscript containing details about Verity’s personal life which throws her into a rabbit hole of confusion and makes her question what is real and what is fake.
Other Mommy
Based on the novel titled Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, Other Mommy is a supernatural psychological horror film starring Jessica Chastain. We meet 8-year-old Bela and her parents who are deep in marital problems. With an already sometimes eerie and vulnerable atmosphere in the house, things become a lot worse when Bela meets a sinister, paranormal creature that takes the physical form of her own mother. She names this entity “Other Mommy” but things turn ugly when the creature starts threatening the family and haunting the house. Will the family come together to protect each other and expel the other mommy or will she take over?
Clayface
Released right in time for Halloween, Clayface is a body horror film based on the infamous villain from the DC Comics. The film follows Matt (Tom Rhys Harries), an actor whose face becomes disfigured from an accident and sabotages his career. In a desperate bid to change his path, he turns to an eccentric scientist (Naomi Ackie) who transforms his body into clay. Produced by Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris, alongside James Gunn of DC Studios, this is going to show a darker side of DC that we haven’t seen before. With the horror world and DC world colliding, it’s sure to be a highlight in our cinema calendar in October.
