Thankamani (Malayalam)
Based on a real-life incident that occurred in Thankamany in October 1986.
A young man named Abel Joshua Mathan, returns for the first time to his hometown from the Gulf, on vacation. His family, which consists of his wife with whom he had a love marriage, and his sister and mother, welcome him with great excitement. With his plans to settle down in his hometown for good during his next vacation, Abel seeks alliances to marry off his sister. After a joyfully spent vacation, Abel plans to return the next day, early morning. As he prepares for the travel, he is totally unaware of the riots and firing that were happening at the village centre. That night, when the Police storm into the village, they also tear apart Abel’s family and ruin his life. As an extension of the police brutality, Abel is also imprisoned. Once he is released after completing his sentence, Abel begins his retaliation. He hunts down each and every person who wiped out his family and his dreams. While trying to capture Abel, the investigating team realizes the atrocities he faced in his life. In the moments where right and wrong are muddled, through Abel’s acts of vengeance, the story of a village is also narrated.- “ Thankamani, The Bleeding Village
